This is not the time to increase it, because in every economy in the world, every analyst has been projecting a future and predicting the bad news. Markets are already discounting that news. So gold is already enjoying the fruits of the bad news of economies, the bad news of stock markets and the bad news on crude and everything else. When you look forward from today, is that bad news going to get worse, is the world going into a deeper sea?
My sense is not, because though some countries delayed their actions in responding to Covid, everybody is serious about it. And the economic impact, the way the markets are discounting, I would say it is pretty close to the bottom in terms of their bearishness about the future as an economy. In that context, gold has already enjoyed the benefit. It is actually like buying equity at the highest PE rates.

You can become a television star -- or at least make a lot of appearances on business and investing shows -- by pretending you know how to time the stock market. Saying you know that the bottom has been reached or that stunning new lows are coming will get a pundit a lot of attention. It's also silly. Nobody can know if the equities market has hit the bottom of any given cycle or if new lows are coming. Nor can they predict market peaks -- any number of experts spent the latter half of the last decade prognosticating that the long bull market was "just about to end. Trying to guess which way the wind is about to blow on Wall Street makes you a trader -- not an investor. You don't need to know when a stock has hit a cyclical low in order to be a savvy buyer. Instead, focus on buying shares in great companies that are well-positioned to deliver value in the long term. The uphill march wasn't perfectly steady, but over time, it was overwhelming. Would it really be significant to your returns if you bought shares a few dollars cheaper early in or if you paid slightly more later in the year? Probably not. The stock market ended its record-long bull run and slipped into bear market territory in March for the first time in over a decade. While no one can predict the future, historical evidence suggests that the market will recover. Throughout the entire history of the market, every downturn has ended in an upturn—and the market has gone on to set new highs. So even though it can be scary to watch the value of market holdings plummet, understanding the nature of the market means realizing that those prices are likely to eventually rise again. And investing while the market is down often means you can get a bargain. This time is no different.
